The Graduate School hosts the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant (TA) Awards annually to honor top TAs nominated by faculty supervisors for their work.  The awards, one to the top Teaching Assistant and one to the top Instructor of Record, recognize outstanding and innovative teaching techniques.

Other 2022-23 finalists for the awards include:

  • Teaching Assistant: Kaitlin Klotz, Biology; Krysta Rogden, Public Administration; Dana Miller, Health Psychology; and Lauren Decker, Geography.
  • Instructor of Record: Maria Alessi, Health Psychology; Chelse Spinner, Public Health Sciences; Caitlan Webster, Public Health Sciences; and Syeda Mazumder, Computing and Information Systems.

Winners received $1000 credit to their student accounts and all finalists were invited to record their words of advice for their peer teaching assistants and instructors of record.

Graduate Teaching Assistants play an important role assisting department chairpersons, faculty members, and other professional staff in teaching courses, developing teaching materials, preparing and giving examinations, and grading examinations or papers.

Dr. Judith Krauss coordinates efforts to support graduate teaching assistants through the Thomas L. Reynolds Center for Graduate Life and Learning, including Graduate Teaching Assistant training offered at the start of the fall and spring semesters.  She also offers workshops on a variety of teaching-related issues each semester.
