You probably hear this a lot, but … THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE! we hope you don’t get tired of that phrase, because you’ve earned it, and UNC Charlotte wants to show you we mean it. We began in 1946 as Charlotte Center of the University of North Carolina offering evening classes to returning World War II veterans in Charlotte Central High School after high school students had completed their classes for the day. Since then we’ve evolved into a stunning 1,000-acre campus (virtual campus tour) with nearly 28,000 students and growing, just nine miles from the center of one of our nation’s most vibrant and prosperous cities (Welcome to Charlotte video). We offer nearly 79 bachelor degree programs, more than 64 master’s degree programs, 21 doctoral programs and an extensive list of Continuing Education and Graduate Certificates. Through all our growth, we have never drifted from our roots – outreach and support to veterans.
That commitment to military-affiliated students is why you’ll find nearly 1,000 veteran students, faculty and staff on our campus. You’ll find a Veteran Student Services Office to help you navigate the challenges of higher education. You’ll find two large and active ROTC units. You’ll even find a Wall of Heroes memorial recognizing members of the UNC Charlotte family who have given their lives in military service. We value, respect and honor those who have served.
Whether you’re on active duty, serving in the Guard or Reserve, or you’ve completed your service, we hope you’ll give UNC Charlotte a serious look. We know the skills you bring: leadership, tenacity, confidence, focus, accountability and determination. We know you’re a strategic and analytical thinker, a problem solver and a team motivator. We also know you’re highly likely to be the model citizen and community leader that will make Charlotte and North Carolina even greater. Let us help you transfer and apply those qualities you bring to meet regional and national professional needs in the private sector.
That last point is an important one – not only is UNC Charlotte an exceptional destination for your higher education, but the Charlotte region is an exceptional destination for your career, a great place to live and work. And our University is actively engaged in the surrounding community, giving you unparalleled access to professional mentoring, internships and jobs.
