Small Talk Series - The Essentials

February 1, 2022 - 4:45 PM to 5:30 PM
DuBois Center Room 201 (AUDITORIUM)

Have you attended all of the “how to network” workshops, yet still feel completely lost or terrified when it comes to social situations?

Are you terrible at striking up conversations at conferences? Do you run out of things to talk about with colleagues? Do you worry about your likeability at job interviews?

Then join us for our Small Talk Series!

“Small talk” is much-maligned as predictable, boring, and difficult to initiate. But it’s not a worthless exchange: small talk is also a social ritual of politeness that paves the way to more in-depth and substantive conversations. You have to be able to engage in small talk in order to get to what really matters--whether that's a job offer, a valuable partnership, or the ticket to sealing a business deal.

In this workshop you’ll learn easy tricks and tips for introducing yourself and for conversing with others, so that you’ll always be prepared to get through the toughest part of conversations and networking.

“Small talk has a bad rap as the lowly stepchild of real conversation, yet…(W)ithout it you rarely get to the real conversation.”

-Debra Fine,The Fine Art of Small Talk

Facilitated by Robin Boswell and Aura Young. Please note that this workshop will be held in person at the Dubois Center, and we will also provide a streaming link for those who can't make it person.

Please, register below. After you register you will receive a confirmation with the Zoom link. For those joining in person, here is parking information. There is also a light rail station within feet of the Dubois Center.
