Ranking lists Charlotte graduate degrees among top programs

UNC Charlotte is again recognized for its commitment to helping students from historically underrepresented groups earn graduate and undergraduate degrees.

In its 2022 Diverse 100 rankings, the news magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education listed UNC Charlotte graduate programs in the top 10 in two categories and No. 3 among North Carolina-based universities in all master’s degrees combined for African American students.

Charlotte’s top 10-ranked graduate programs include two designations for the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), which graduated its third cohort in 2022 — No. 2 for African Americans and No. 3 for Overall Minorities. In the category of Architecture and Related Services, which includes the Master of Architecture (MARC) and the Master of Urban Design (MUD), Charlotte ranked No. 5 for most African American degrees conferred.

UNC Charlotte is the No. 3 largest producer of master’s degrees for African Americans among North Carolina public universities, just behind North Carolina A&T State University and North Carolina Central University, and No. 90 in the nation, awarding more than 200 degrees in 2020-21.

Other Charlotte master’s program areas making the top 50 for African American student degrees conferred include:

  • No. 40: Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services
  • No. 41: Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services
  • No. 49: Education
