Tolley was nominated for the award by the local P.E.O. chapter, then competed with 827 nominees nationwide to receive the maximum award amount. Tolley was one of 100 awardees nationwide and four awardees in North Carolina. In addition, each year the Board of Trustees chooses 16 P.E.O. Scholars to receive special distinction. Tolley was honored as a Yao Ming Charitable Trust Scholar.
“It's an honor to be acknowledged by an organization fiercely committed to women uplifting other women,” she said. “I hope to make my chapter proud by continuing the social impact work set in motion by the change agents before me."
